I just finished watching the new StarTrek movie and I feel a bit used... Mostly I wait for the movies to release on rental through iTunes, so I am a bit behind the times.
The plot of the story seems more themed towards creating the opportunity for another series franchise than really giving any food-for-thought. Summed up the plot seems to be - the past was fucked up, now we have a new future to play with.
The graphics were great and there were some entertaining fight scenes, but there wasn't any solid social or otherwise any real message to the movie. Graphics aside, I did find myself yawning at yet another cut-to-starship firing lasers scene.
Maybe this is all we can expect from mainstream Hollywood now? Regurgitation of proven models playing on basic emotions. This isn't bad, I guess, it is who we are as a race. But I can't help but feel empty inside. Like we are giving up some part of ourselves in-order to pander to our basic desires.
