"To avoid the possibility of angering a woman, man can achieve new wonders" is my new slogan. Today I got a chance to try it out. I was caught up in a conversation with one of my bosses and lost track of time. When I came-to, I had five minutes to run about five blocks through two malls and across a main street to meet my fiancee and avoid making her angry that I was late (again).
It is funny to watch a grown man run through a mall, wearing a dress shirt, slacks, black-shoes and a mini-backpack. I know because I have seen a few. This also means that I know exactly how stupid I looked this evening running through that bloody mall.
In the end, I probably should have walked. I still reached late, got a silent treatment and had to do my please-forgive-me-dance.
Yet maybe running was a good idea after all. She seemed to enjoy the story and image of me running through Suntec City Convention Centre for her. So my lesson for today? If you are going to be late, make sure you have an embarrassing story to tell.
